1)      Minoan Palace

The Minoan palatial complex is the main archeological site to visit in Knossos, one of the ancient world’s greatest and most important cities.

Dating back from the Neolithic era to the 5^th century, the city is located on the Kefalas hill, with easy access to the sea and Crete’s in-land commerce. According to tradition, it was the seat of power for wise King Minos, and is connected to multiple myths, including the Labyrinth (and it’s minotaur), Deadalus and Icarus, and more!

2)  Morozini Fountain

Morosini Fountain is located in Lionaria Square (Eleftheriou Venizelou) opposite the Basilica of St. Mark, in the center of Heraklion.

It is considered one of the most beautiful Venetian monuments of Chandakas (Name of Heraklion, Crete during the Byzantine period) and is preserved in very good condition. The fountain was the water supply for the city of Heraklion. The water came from the Yukhta mountain in Archanes with a 15 km aqueduct that stretched to Heraklion.

20)Tomb of Kazantzakis

The tomb of this great Cretan writer is located on the highest point of Heraklion, on the Venetian walls in the Martingen bastion, overlooking the entire city. 

The tomb is simple, with a large wooden cross and Kazantzakis’ personal inscription: “I hope for nothing, I am not afraid of anything, I am free.” The visit to the tomb can be combined with a short walk on the Venetian walls overlooking the city.

21) Venetian fortress Koule

At the entrance of the port of Heraklion, where the western pier ends, an imposing fortress dominates. 

The fortress of Koule is one of the most familiar and beloved monuments of the city and a symbol of Heraklion. Today, the Koule Fortress overlooks the Cretan Sea, reminiscent of the grandeur of the Venetian Chandakas.

22)Paralia Lygaria

Lalegaria Maleviziou is located in the region of Achlada, 21 km northwest of Heraklion and 1 km east of Agia Pelagia.

The beach is very beautiful with thick sand and turquoise calm waters, while the boats make the landscape picturesque.

23) Paralia Agiofarago

The beach of Agiofaragos is located about 80 km south of the city of Heraklion, at the exit of Agiofaragos. The beach at the exit of the gorge is amazing, with small pebbles and crystal clear waters, which are usually very calm.
